As Jeff noted in his dedication on Instagram, Jackie became a mother at 17. It was at her job that she met her future husband, Miguel «Mike» Bezos, and they married in April 1968.
«Her adult life started a little early when she became my mom at the tender age of 17», - Jeff wrote in his social media post, adding, «It couldn’t have been easy, but she handled it all. She took on the task of loving me fiercely, brought my amazing dad [Miguel] into the team a few years later, and then added my sister and brother to the list of people to love, protect, and nurture».
Amazon’s founder added that Jackie «always gave much more than she ever asked for».
Jackie was diagnosed with a form of dementia called Lewy body disease in 2020. As indicated on the Bezos Scholars Program website, this progressive neurological disorder was something Jackie «fought with the same dignity and courage that defined every aspect of her life».
At the age of 45, Jackie returned to school to earn a bachelor’s degree. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1991 from St. Elizabeth University in New Jersey.
In addition to leading the Bezos Family Foundation, Jackie also collaborated with the Fred Hutch Cancer Center in Seattle to support immunotherapy efforts
