The late actress, known for her iconic roles in films such as «Tootsie» and «Young Frankenstein», - came from a family of performers. Her father, Eddie Garr, was a comedian, and her mother, Phyllis Lind, was a Rockette. While Teri followed in their footsteps, she made a unique name for herself with a series of memorable roles that defined her career and delighted audiences for many years.

Teri was the mother of only one child, her daughter Molly O’Neil, whom she adopted in 1993. She did not have any other children.

At the time of her death, Teri was not married, but she was married once to John O’Neil. John was also an adoptive parent to Molly, and both continued to raise Molly even after their separation in 1996, according to Distractify. Despite the breakup, they maintained a close bond, raising their daughter together. John expressed in an interview with The National Enquirer: «If Teri ever feels down, Molly is always there to cheer her up». He continued: «Molly is the most wonderful child in the world».

John further added: «Molly is gold, she means the world to us. We are the happiest two people in the world, having this child. The only thing that matters is raising our daughter».

For many years, Teri bravely battled multiple sclerosis. Despite facing this condition, she always remained strong and resilient. She shared her experience in an interview with CNN in 2022, saying: «I think everyone experiences fear and horror when they hear something like this». She added: «It's because there’s so much — you know, there’s not a lot of information about it. And a lot of people don’t know that it’s not that bad. I mean, I continue to live my life»
