In New Jersey, a father shot his wife and daughter before taking his own life

A neighbor of the Grodnik family reported «unusual» behavior from the family before the father killed his wife and daughter in a murder-suicide at their home in New Jersey. According to Mian Helali, who lives nearby, he noticed that the family had stopped taking care of their lawn, which he found strange.
As previously reported, David Grodnik shot his wife Laura and their adult daughter Sloan in the house on October 2, before taking his own life. Helali noted that the family appeared perfect from the outside, and they had previously spent a lot of time improving their property. However, in recent months, he observed that the lawn was unkempt and the trees were not trimmed, which raised his concerns.
Despite his worries, Helali was «very shocked» by the news of the tragedy. Authorities began an investigation after an anonymous call requested a welfare check on the family. Initially, police were unable to contact the Grodniks on October 1, but returned on October 2 and discovered the bodies of David, Laura, and Sloan in different bedrooms. The deaths of Laura and Sloan were ruled homicides, while David’s death was ruled a suicide.
The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the investigation is ongoing, but it has been determined that the murders of Laura and Sloan Grodnik were an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public. David was working as a senior vice president and legal counsel at Land Services USA at the time of his death. The family had moved to Skillman, New Jersey, from Princeton and was a member of the exclusive Bedens Brook Country Club and TPC Jasna Polana.
