Detective Vincent Riley killed in 'Law & Order' series

In the series «Law & Order», - the character of Detective Vincent Riley, played by Reid Scott, was killed in the line of duty in an episode that aired on October 15. This decision came as a surprise after it was revealed in July that Detective Theo Walker, portrayed by David Ajala, would be getting a new partner instead of Riley. This season, the show will introduce a new senior detective, James Badge Dale.

According to information published by Deadline, Scott’s departure was his own decision, and this «amicable» separation leaves the door open for Riley’s return in the future. Executive producer Rick Eid had previously hinted at how Scott’s character would be bid farewell, noting that it would be «very emotional and powerful».

The «Law & Order» franchise is known for frequent cast changes. The spin-off «Law & Order: Special Victims Unit» also faced changes when it was announced in May 2025 that actors Octavio Pisano and Julianna Aiden Martinez would be leaving ahead of the 27th season. Pisano, who joined the show in its 23rd season, later returned for a few episodes, while Martinez moved on to another Dick Wolf project, «FBI».

«Law & Order» airs on NBC on Thursdays at 10 PM Eastern Time and is available for streaming on Peacock the following day.
