Val Chmerkovskiy commented on his absence from the «Dancing with the Stars» dedication night after being suspended for a controversial remark about judge Carrie Ann Inaba. In his Instagram post on October 17, he wrote: «As you may have seen in the news, I will not be in the ballroom this week».
The reason for the suspension was Chmerkovskiy’s comments made during a live broadcast on October 13, when Inaba asked about a possible rules violation in the dance of his wife, professional dancer Jenna Johnson. Chmerkovskiy reportedly threatened the judge, which led to his public apology. He noted that he did not want Inaba to be at the center of his poor judgment and emphasized that he did not want to distract from the important week and the work of his dance partner, Jenna Dewan.
Chmerkovskiy and Dewan were set to perform a Viennese waltz in the next show in honor of the actress’s mother, Nancy. However, in light of his comments, the show announced that he would not participate in the next broadcast. A representative from BBC Studios confirmed that «the well-being of everyone involved in the show is paramount» and added that Chmerkovskiy’s post was inappropriate.
Jenna Johnson has not yet commented on the situation but left a heart emoji under a post by Harry Shum, who called for a more positive attitude on the show. In Chmerkovskiy’s absence, Dewan will dance with Alan Bersten. «Dancing with the Stars» airs on ABC and Disney+ on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM Eastern Time.
