Valerie Allman quickly became a headline hero after winning the discus throw at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The 29-year-old athlete reached a distance of 69.50 meters, defeating China and Croatia. Now, as one of the most popular names on the US team, learn more about her sports career and beyond!

A few weeks before the start of the 2024 Olympics, Valerie and her boyfriend, coach Zeb Sion, announced their relationship on Instagram. In June, they were photographed together at the White House. Zeb also expressed his support for Valerie on Instagram, admiring how «happy» he was to return to the Olympics with this athlete.

«I am so happy to return to the Olympics with @vallman123», - Zeb captioned his post, adding: «Tokyo was such a unique and amazing experience with her victory [gold], but this time everything feels different in many beautiful aspects. We have put so much time, energy, blood, sweat, and tears into this pursuit. We were thoughtful and disciplined, but also surrendered to life in very meaningful ways; truly living life as a 'journey instead of a result'. I know we have done everything possible, so regardless of how it all turns out, we will have no regrets».

The athlete and her coach have known each other for many years. It is unknown when they started working together, but several sources reported that Zeb first saw her when she competed at Silver Creek High School in Colorado. Zeb became her coach when she was studying at Stanford University.

Valerie participated in both the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics. She won gold in the discus throw at both games.

While studying at Stanford University, Valerie studied project design and graduated from the university in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree.

Between the 2020 and 2024 Olympics, Valerie became the North American record holder in the discus throw. Her best throw was in San Diego in 2022, when she reached a distance of 71.46 meters.

Valerie called her achievements «truly special» at the 2024 Olympic Games, according to wdtn.com.

«It's honestly hard to put into words», - she said. «I thought about winning this title in '21, and it was so special to achieve it. And the path to achieving the goal is never the same when you try to do it again. And this time it was full of many difficulties and struggles».

Recalling her moments of «doubt and many difficulties», - the Olympic champion added that she is «very grateful to the people who have been with me on this journey, who have been there in difficult moments, in joyful moments, and who were able to celebrate with me last night, personally, it was just incredible».

Before participating in the discus throw, Valerie was a passionate dancer. According to Stanford Medicine, the athlete had previously talked about how dance helped her learn the «choreography» behind the discus throw.

«The type of movement from dance really helped in the discus throw», - she said. «It requires a certain level of coordination, balance, and placement of things»
