In a 2019 interview with NPR’s «Fresh Air», - Wanda Sykes admitted, «I didn’t want kids. I had no idea I would have children at all». However, after meeting her future wife, Alex Niedbalski, the comedian’s views on family changed dramatically. Wanda and Alex got married in 2008, and in 2009 they became parents to a pair of fraternal twins—Olivia Lou and Lucas Claude.

«Everyone is happy and healthy at home», - Wanda’s representative stated at the time, as reported by TODAY.

Since then, Wanda has fully embraced motherhood, even though she previously couldn’t imagine herself in the role of a parent. Reflecting on her early conversations with Alex, Wanda shared on «Fresh Air» that her future wife made it clear from the start that she wanted children. Wanda initially asked for time to think, explaining that if motherhood wasn’t for her, the relationship wouldn’t continue. But even before those six months were up, Wanda realized, «Why not start a family with this person?» Later, she called the decision to become a parent «the best decision» of her life.

Since then, Wanda has often included parenting stories in her stand-up performances, balancing family life with a busy career in Hollywood. Although she and Alex try to keep their children mostly out of the public eye, the Emmy-winning comedian continues to share rare moments from life with the twins.

Here’s what you need to know about Wanda and Alex’s children.

Olivia was born on April 27, 2009. She weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces and was 19 inches long. Alex gave birth to both children, and she and Wanda are raising them together.

Over the years, Wanda has occasionally shared her thoughts on parenting in interviews and comedy specials, often joking about the realities of raising twins while juggling a demanding career in the entertainment industry. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Wanda candidly admitted that parenting and remote work left her feeling exhausted as she filmed and produced projects from home.

Now that Olivia and Lucas are teenagers, they recently made headlines when Wanda joked in an interview that the twins want Instagram accounts and driving lessons for their 16th birthday. Wanda confessed that she was hesitant about social media and joked that she refuses to get in the car while the teenagers are learning to drive. She also often shares that her children are bilingual and speak French fluently thanks to Alex’s background.

Olivia’s brother, Lucas, was born on the same day—April 27, 2009—and weighed 7 pounds 9 ounces, with a length of 20 inches.

Over the years, Wanda has sometimes shared funny and candid stories about motherhood, including the challenges of raising twins during the COVID-19 pandemic. In a 2020 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wanda explained how she and Alex balanced working from home with their children’s remote learning, trying to maintain a sense of normalcy
