With the increasing number of complaints, the company assured that its engineers were working on a solution. When a phone is in «SOS» mode, the cellular network is only available for emergency calls, but not for other types of calls. If a device shows an «SOS» signal, it usually means that it cannot send text messages or make outgoing calls.

This is not Verizon’s first outage, and in the past, the company has managed to restore service for most or all customers in less than a day. If the issue turns out to be similar to previous outages, customers can expect service to be restored on the same day, January 14.

However, the company has not yet confirmed how long it will take for customers to wait for service restoration.

Verizon acknowledged its issue in a statement on X on January 14, noting that the team «is aware of the problem affecting wireless voice and data services for some customers». The company added, «Our engineers are working to quickly identify and resolve the issue. We understand how important reliable communication is and apologize for the inconvenience».

In a subsequent statement, Verizon tweeted that its engineering teams «continue to work on resolving today’s service interruptions».
