After the Harris-Trump presidential debate in September, Republican Senator J.D. Vance from Ohio and Democratic Governor Tim Walz from Minnesota will face off in debates for the vice presidency, organized by CBS News. This event will take place five weeks before voters head to the polls on the General Election Day on Tuesday, November 5.

The debates are being hosted by CBS News, so they will be broadcast live on CBS and streamed on the CBS YouTube channel. Additionally, NBC, CNBC, MSNBC, and Peacock will also broadcast the debates live, as well as CNN, C-SPAN, ABC, Fox News, and PBS.
The debates are scheduled to begin at 9:00 pm Eastern Time on October 1, which corresponds to 8:00 pm Central Time.
The debates will be moderated by «CBS Evening News» anchor and managing editor Nora O’Donnell, along with «Face the Nation» moderator and CBS News foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan.
Back in August, CBS News sent an invitation to Vance and Walz, offering four potential debate dates: September 17, September 24, October 1, and October 8 — dates they marked on X. Both campaigns soon agreed on the October 1 date.

Vance agreed to the date, stating that «the American people deserve as many debates as possible». However, he also challenged Walz to additional debates on September 18, which CNN proposed to host. Usually, in US elections, only one vice presidential debate is held, and the likelihood of another presidential debate also seems low.
