Victoria Justice «slowed down the pace» of her career after her teenage years as a star on Nickelodeon. «I think I was so busy for so long during my young life that after it all ended, it was quite nice to take some time to just focus on what I want to do, slow down in some relationships, and just be more selective in what I want to do and when I want to do it», - shared the 31-year-old actress in an interview for People, published on Monday, June 3.

Her statements came shortly after she expressed gratitude for her Hollywood career, despite allegations against Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider. «I'm not excusing his behavior… At the end of the day, my relationship with Dan is very complex: I met him when I was 12, and he’s the person who gave me this big chance. He completely changed my life. I probably wouldn’t be where I am today if it weren’t for him, and if he didn’t see something in me. For that, I will always be grateful», - Justice told Marie Claire magazine.

Shortly after the end of the «Zoey 101» and «Victorious» era, Victoria worked on very few projects, such as «The Rocky Horror Picture Show» on Fox, «Eye Candy» on Netflix, and «Sweet/Vicious» on MTV, but didn’t pay much attention to music, which was a big part of her television years. «I definitely took a break from music. I had a deal that wasn’t working out… for many reasons. And so I asked to be let out of that deal», - the actress stated in her latest interview for People.

Although there was a pause in her music career, she will never give it up. «I think music will always be a part of me, my personality, and what I do. So even in times when I wasn’t actively doing music and wasn’t in the studio as much, I always think about music… I always record ideas on my phone, song titles and melodies, and share them in voice notes. So it’s always a part of me. But I think even in those years when I wasn’t making music, even those life experiences, all of that influences my music now. I also think that ultimately, music for me is such a personal thing», - Victoria expressed in the interview.

The Nickelodeon actress is working on new music, but wants it to be true to her personality. She explained, «I feel like right now I’m really in a place where my music feels very authentic. I feel like I’m saying what I want to say. I feel like I’m expressing myself exactly how I want, and I’m just having a lot of fun making the music that I want».

Despite a major transformation and saying goodbye to her young life, the singer of «Beggin' On Your Knees» admitted that she is part of group chats and stays in touch with her colleagues from the shows «Zoey 101» and «Victorious». «I went to the premiere [of Zoey 102] they had in Los Angeles, and it was really nice to reunite with the girls and some of my old castmates from the show».

She added, «It's always fun when the [Victorious group chat] starts, and it gets really active, and we all chime in… It’s like old times, which is really sweet. But yeah, they’re all wonderful. We all have to meet up, definitely»
