John F. Kennedy’s grandson, Jack Schlossberg, has been appointed as the new political correspondent for Vogue magazine. In honor of his new position, the publication conducted a deep interview with 31-year-old Jack, the son of John F. Kennedy’s daughter, Caroline Kennedy. The late president’s only grandson opened up about his political awakening and connection to family history, as well as showcased bits of his personality.
Jack has amassed a sizable audience (over 93,000 followers) on TikTok, regularly blending silly sketches and vlogs with videos in which he shares political commentary and education. The publication shared the exciting news of his joining the team in the introduction to the interview. «Today, Schlossberg joins Vogue as a political correspondent ahead of the 2024 elections, a role that will allow him to combine his experience in law and business (he earned JD and MBA degrees at Harvard) with his self-described 'silly goose' tendencies that he demonstrates online», - they noted.
In the interview, fashion writer Hannah Jackson asked him about his online presence and why so many people feel a connection to him. Jack admitted that he simply aims to entertain. «I just have a good time. I’m a fun, eccentric guy. I’m a silly goose — a silly goose who’s just trying to get the truth out», - he said.
Jack talked about his family’s political history and called his grandfather his «hero». He spoke about the influence of John F. Kennedy and admitted that he is a «history nerd» when it comes to studying his family history. «I've always felt very lucky to have this huge historical record of my family that I can learn from. Many people don’t have such relationships with their ancestors. I am so lucky, and therefore I try to learn as much as possible from them. I think my grandfather’s speeches are the coolest things. His administration really did a lot that is still with us, and he inspired a whole generation of people to enter public service — and still does», - he said.
Despite concerns about the 2024 elections, Jack acknowledged that he approaches everything with hope, but warned that, in his view, «in everyday life, things will really go bad» if former President Donald Trump defeats current President Joe Biden. However, he believes that educating the youth will help. «This is truly a pivotal moment in history, and it’s such an exciting time to be alive and have the opportunity to vote. I want to convey this atmosphere, because there is a lot of negative energy around politics, and I want to bring some positivity, because it’s really important», - he said
