Summer Fridays will return when the series «The Summer I Became Beautiful» returns for its third season. The popular Prime Video series was renewed for a third season on August 3, before the finale of the second season. The third season will consist of 10 episodes, two more than in previous seasons.
«We were thrilled by the passion with which fans embraced the series 'The Summer I Became Beautiful,' making summer Fridays a phenomenon in the world of entertainment», - said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, in a statement. «This charming, deeply touching series has shown the breadth of our audience, attracting a young, diverse audience. Jenny Han is a talented storyteller, whose fans demanded a third chapter of this story. Today we are pleased to announce that they have plenty more summer ahead. Thank you Jenny, Sarah Kucserka, and Karen Rosenfelt, as well as our friends at wiip for their wonderful work and partnership».
After the finale of the second season, fans are demanding news about the third season of «The Summer I Became Beautiful». Could the third season be the last? Here are all the latest updates on the third season.
The release of the third season of «The Summer I Became Beautiful» is scheduled for July 16, 2025. Prime Video confirmed that the third season was officially launched before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
The streaming service also noted that production of the third season began after labor negotiations with these unions were resolved.
The main cast of «The Summer I Became Beautiful» is expected to return for the third season. It includes Lola Tung as Belly, Christopher Braine as Conrad, Gavin Casalengo as Jeremiah, Sean Kaufman as Steven, Rain Spencer as Taylor, David Yakon as Cam, and Jackie Chung as Laurel.
Kyra Sedgwick and Elsie Fisher joined the second season as Aunt Julie and Sky, Susan’s sisters and nieces. Sky, who uses they/them pronouns, became part of the group, spending time with Belly, Conrad, and Jeremiah at Cousins Beach. She helped the boys save their home and even shared a first kiss with Cam. Julie and Sky left Cousins in the 7th episode of the second season, but Julie said they are always «just a phone call away», - opening the possibility of returning in the third season.
Although Susan died in the second season, the character remains an emotional core of the series. Rachel Blanchard appeared throughout the season in flashbacks. Given how much she means to the characters, it is very likely that we will see Susan again in the third season.
Each season of «The Summer I Became Beautiful» is based on the best-selling novel by Jenny Han. The second season was based on «It's Not Summer Without You», - the second book in the series. The third season will be inspired by «We'll Always Have Summer», - the final book in the trilogy.
«I look forward to the opportunity to provide fans with the iconic moments of the third book that they expect, but also hope to surprise and delight them», - Jenny said Deadline, speaking about the finale of the second season. She also told The Hollywood Reporter, «I think they can expect Belly to really start to assert herself and grow in many ways».
The author/showrunner has also openly discussed how things can change when it comes to adapting books for television, leading fans to theorize that Belly’s final choice may change. «It's a bit of a balancing act because I really had to weigh what the fans expect with where the show is creatively going and find that balance. My priority has always been that I want fans of the book to feel really satisfied with the story we’re telling, but also to know that it’s an adaptation in a new environment, so it won’t be exactly the same. I think those are always two things that are always on my mind», - Jenny said Variety in 2022.
