The Golden Bachelor is returning for a new season, featuring a new participant ready to find love and start a new journey. According to USA Today, ABC shared their excitement in a press release, stating: «As the Golden Bachelor, he looks forward to meeting someone who shares his vision and finally finding that perfect partner he has been waiting for in his golden years».
While the premiere date has not been officially announced, ABC is expected to release more details as the season approaches.
Mel Owens is stepping into the role for the second season. According to ABC, «After several years as a devoted father, Owens is ready to rediscover love based on the simple joys of companionship — sharing everyday life moments, making plans for the future, and growing stronger together as a couple».
Although Bachelor Nation may not be familiar with him, sports fans will recognize Owens as a former NFL player who played for the Los Angeles Rams. He is now working as a lawyer.
Jerry Turner, the original Golden Bachelor, announced in December 2024 that he had been diagnosed with Waldenstrom’s macroglobulinemia, a rare form of cancer. In April 2025, on the «Bachelor Happy Hour» podcast, he shared an update on his health, saying: «I have no symptoms yet, there is no treatment. So I often get blood tests». He added that he is currently on a six-month monitoring schedule.
Despite the diagnosis, Jerry remains optimistic. «I feel optimistic because the doctor said, 'Well, when you turn 75, we’ll have to switch to three-month intervals,'» he explained. «So he’s telling me that at least he expects me to live a couple more years to get to that point. But the main thing is that I feel really good».
He also shared his thoughts on his perspective after receiving the diagnosis: «it's a privilege to live as if you were dying»
