Whoopi Goldberg defends Kelly Clarkson after The Voice coach shared her experience with a weight loss medication. On Wednesday, May 15, in an episode of The View, 68-year-old Whoopi expressed her disappointment that some fans doubt the reasons behind Kelly’s choice.
«Many people take this medication because they need it. Some need to kickstart their metabolism. Some have diabetes. There are many reasons», - Whoopi shared. «Kelly is being criticized for this by people who say that she previously claimed to lose weight from walking. She does walk, but this medication helps her».
During the May 13 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Whoopi discussed her own weight issues before sharing: «I take this wonderful shot that helps those who need it, and it has helped me a lot».
Kelly, 42, responded: «My medication is different from what people assume, but I had to take it. … Everyone thinks it’s Ozempic. No, it’s something else, but it helps break down sugar».
From Whoopi’s perspective, some people will never be satisfied with what Kelly says or doesn’t say. «They criticize her when she’s heavier, criticize when she’s lost weight, and now criticize for saying it out loud», - shared the Oscar winner. «Maybe she would have been more comfortable hearing someone say, 'Here's what I did.'»
«Let people do what they need to do to achieve their goals, and stop being upset that they’re not doing it your way», - Whoopi continued.
The ladies of The View agreed with Whoopi that people should leave Kelly alone. Sunny Hostin also expressed her opinion that strangers are not entitled to know what others are doing in terms of medical decisions.
«If you feel good physically, you will feel better psychologically», - she said. «We have an epidemic of depression in our country, an epidemic of women shaming women, men shaming men, men shaming women. This all needs to stop. People don’t ask a guy, 'Hey, are you taking Viagra?' I don’t think personal medical decisions you make for yourself should be up for discussion».
