Wilmer Valderrama opens up like never before in his new memoir «American Story: Everyone’s Invited». Throughout the book, the NCIS star reminisces about his days working with his colleagues on the show «That '70s Show» and his experience immigrating from Venezuela to California. Some of the most vivid moments from his memoirs involve specific memories, including a terrifying incident on a plane and an apparent «rivalry» he shared with co-star Ashton Kutcher.
Hollywood Life magazine has compiled the brightest moments from Wilmer’s book below.
In one excerpt from the book, Wilmer recalls a terrifying «shaky» flight on a plane with some of his «That '70s Show» colleagues, including Ashton and Danny Masterson, according to Us Weekly.
«A group of actors and experts are flying back to Hollywood from New Orleans after the Super Bowl, but nothing goes smoothly on this flight», - Wilmer explained in his memoirs. «A winter storm rages in the skies, and the atmosphere on board is shaking. … Outside, nothing but darkness and wet snow. The plane rocks up, down, sideways. I feel like I’m losing consciousness. Breathing becomes increasingly difficult».
Soon the pilot signaled that they were in for a turbulent journey; Wilmer remembered how oxygen masks began to fall from above.
«Oxygen masks fall from the ceiling, and I wonder if they fell because of turbulence or for another reason», - Wilmer wrote in the book. «We struggle with our masks. Something is clearly wrong with this plane. … Ashton’s jaw dropped to his knees».
After they thought their plane was «falling», - the actor recalled how he «struggled with the thought of the best scenario if [they] crashed at the top of a mountain and were not found».
Despite the horrific ordeal, Wilmer managed to inject some humor into the story. In one excerpt, the former «Grey's Anatomy» actor joked that if they were lost in the mountains, «Ashton would have to think about who to eat first. Most likely, it would be me, because he loves Latin American cuisine».
When the plane finally landed, Wilmer noted that their entire group «let out a cry of joy, but it seemed like a whole lifetime had passed», - and that it was not a «happy cry», - as everyone felt their lives were in danger.
After the terrifying incident on the plane, Wilmer received advice from his fellow actor Johnny Depp. In a separate excerpt from his memoirs, according to Us Weekly, the former star of «The Ranch» noted that the actor from «Pirates of the Caribbean» advised him to «focus on one character at a time» and «bet on himself» in his career.
Reflecting on his time working on «That '70s Show», - where he played the character Fez, Wilmer described his relationship with Ashton as «friendly rivalry». According to Wilmer, they «competed to see who could make the audience laugh more on the first take».
Although both friends presented funny performances on the show, Wilmer noted that Ashton «was much smarter in real life than the character he played, and he was much more serious about acting than it seemed». Both of them always came to the set «very prepared» to give it their all, Wilmer added in the book.
