Japanese Hair Straightening: What You Need to Know Before the Procedur
Japanese hair straightening is becoming increasingly popular among those tired of daily styling of curly or wavy hair. This process chemically alters the structure of each hair strand, allowing them to remain perfectly straight until new growth occurs, without the need for daily styling.

The cost of the procedure ranges from $ 400 to $ 800, and it is irreversible. Additionally, it may not be suitable for hair that has been bleached, colored, or weakened by previous chemical treatments. According to certified dermatologist Hadley King, Japanese straightening, also known as thermal conditioning, combines a chemical solution with heat to change the disulfide bonds within each hair strand, resulting in a permanent alteration of the structure.

Stylists emphasize that Japanese straightening is different from keratin and Brazilian treatments, which are semi-permanent coatings. Keratin and Brazilian treatments soften curls and add shine, but they wash out over time, while Japanese straightening permanently changes the hair structure.

Despite the benefits, such as humidity resistance and ease of styling, the procedure carries its risks. Treated hair cannot be returned to its natural texture, and the process can weaken or dry out the hair, especially if it is already damaged. Stylists recommend thoroughly discussing the desired outcome before starting the procedure and choosing an experienced professional.

Post-procedure care is crucial, as the health of the hair depends on how it is maintained in the following weeks and months. It is advisable to schedule a consultation with a licensed stylist who can assess the condition of the hair and perform a strand test to avoid damage.
