Young Thug (real name: Jeffrey Williams) was involved in the longest legal process in the history of Georgia. Initially, prosecutors insisted that the rapper receive a 45-year sentence, with 25 years behind bars and the remaining 20 years under supervision. However, after successfully reaching a plea deal on October 31, 2024, Young Thug will be released from prison. Learn more about his plea deal, sentence, parole, and case below.
Young Thug was arrested on multiple charges related to a gang along with Gunna and more than 20 other individuals associated with the YSL record label on a 56-count indictment. After being arrested in Fulton County, Young Thug was later placed behind bars in Cobb County Jail in Georgia.
Following a search of his home, Young Thug was also charged with several additional serious crimes for possession of illegal substances and firearms. He was denied bail multiple times since his arrest.
The rapper was incarcerated after his arrest in May 2022. His trial officially began in November 2023. After a brief hiatus, the trial resumed in January 2024.
In October 2024, Young Thug reached a plea deal for his release from prison.
Young Thug was released from prison on October 31, 2024, after pleading guilty to one gang-related charge, three drug charges, and two weapons charges, as well as reaching a plea deal of no contest to a separate gang-related charge and an accusation of organizing a criminal group, according to multiple sources. He also agreed to avoid metro Atlanta for the first 10 years of his parole, except for special occasions or emergencies, such as weddings, funerals, and/or family emergencies.
Additionally, Young Thug agreed not to record music with lyrics related to gangs. Part of the plea deal also requires him to visit metro Atlanta four times a year to give a presentation on the dangers of gangs and the use of weapons in a school or similar location, such as a Boys and Girls Club.
During his court appearance in October 2024, the «Go Crazy» artist addressed the judge and apologized for his actions.
«I take responsibility for my crimes, for my charges», - he said, according to Newsweek. «I want to apologize to my family, my mom, my mom has 11 kids, I can’t name all their names, my managers, my children»
