Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Chalke discussed during an interview with Extra the second season of the revival of the series Scrubs and their real-life friendship off the set.
Zach noted that their friendship makes the show unique: «When you come to the set and pretend to be friends, it’s not the same as when you have all this history». He added that they spend more time together than ever and often meet on weekends.
Braff recalled how the show’s creator Bill Lawrence used their friendship as inspiration for the plot. «Bill used to ask Donald and me what we did on the weekends, and the next week some aspect of that would show up on the show», - he explained.
Donald and Zach acknowledged that they sometimes have disagreements. Donald joked that they try not to show their arguments to the «kids», - adding that he doesn’t like it when Zach comes to set too energized.
Sarah Chalke emphasized that their long-standing friendship influences their performances: «When you have that sense of safety, you feel free to try something new». She also noted that her character was not originally written as clumsy.
Zach praised Sarah, calling her «the clumsiest person he’s ever met». They also discussed their pets, and Sarah remarked that Zach takes great care of his dog.
Donald talked about how they all support each other and recalled how Sarah helped them find housing when they moved to Vancouver. He also noted that they try to pass on the lessons they learned from Lawrence to new cast members.
The new season of Scrubs premieres with two episodes on Wednesday, September 30, on ABC, and the following day on Hulu.
