Luigi Mandione became famous overnight after being accused in connection with the murder of Brian Thompson, the former CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Karen Friedman Agnifilo is representing Mandione as his defense attorney. Now that Mandione has been extradited to New York from Pennsylvania, his trial process, a graduate of the Ivy League, is expected to take place soon. Shortly after being brought to New York, the site of his alleged crime, Friedman Agnifilo appeared in court.
«I am very concerned about my client’s right to a fair trial in this case. Some statements made by authorities are biased», - Friedman Agnifilo told Judge Carr, according to The Independent. «There is a lot of case law guaranteeing his right to a fair trial. But no security measures have been taken yet. In fact, the opposite is happening».
Friedman Agnifilo also argued that authorities are «literally treating [Mandione] as some political fodder, as some spectacle». She then pointed out Mayor Eric Adams' behavior and hinted at his indictment.
«He was put on public display in the largest arrest setup I have ever seen in my career. It was absolutely unnecessary», - Friedman Agnifilo continued. «And what was the Mayor of New York doing at this press conference? It just made it absolutely political. And, frankly, your honor, the mayor should know more than anyone about the presumption of innocence, which he also benefits from, dealing with his own issues».
