Zendaya’s Challengers fashion press tour continues to delight! Style icon and movie star, 27-year-old Zendaya, chose a pink and black lace ball gown to attend the premiere of her sports drama film in Los Angeles. The dress by Vera Wang featured a split black and pink tulle skirt and lace bodice. She kept her accessories simple, wearing diamond stud earrings.
In the film, the former Disney Channel star plays Tashi Duncan: a tennis prodigy whose sharp character pits best friends and athletes against each other. When it comes to embodying such an intense character like Tashi, Zendaya described how she connected with the role.
«I think I was trying to empathize with my character — because that’s my job, although I think she does some things that I would never do — in that no one asks, 'Tashi, are you okay? What do you need?'», - Zendaya told Vogue in an interview published on April 9. «She just always has everything under control, and no one takes that responsibility off her. She makes all the decisions. She does everything. So I imagine she really runs everything. She’s like, a mom to everyone».
The Spider-Man franchise actress admitted that Tashi «raises the bar to a new level», - acknowledging that she «was a little scared of her» when she first read the script.
«Usually I play a character that ultimately is easier to empathize with», - Zendaya said. «There was something about her that made me think, 'Oh, damn'. Even I was a little scared of her. [But] I would say, yeah, I’m competitive, in the sense that I want to work hard. and I try not to compete with anyone else. I just say: I’ve already done it, okay, now I need to do better».
Preparing for the sports role required some training, and Zendaya recalled how she went to the courts and the gym.
«At first, it was mastering the basics, trying to just get this damn thing», - she said, referring to learning tennis. «One day you’d be like, 'Oh, damn, I got it. I understand. I did it'. You come the next day, [it's gone]»
