Zendaya says that she finds it «scary» to return to the Met Gala after a 5-year break

Zendaya is experiencing a variety of emotions as she prepares for her return to the Met Gala. Just a few weeks before she becomes a co-chair of the annual event in New York, the actress reminisces about her past appearances.

«I like to look at fashion as art», - Zendaya shared. «Even on press tours, it’s a way to continue the art from the film. … I just like creating characters because sometimes, doing it for real life, you feel a little strange and awkward, and I’m more of a shy, introverted person, so I can create these characters. 'Today I’m the woman in the green suit.' You can embody that character for the day, and clothing can help with that».
At the 2024 Met Gala, guests, including co-chairs Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth, will follow a dress code described as «Garden of Time». Inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story of the same name, fashion hopes to be about «fleeting beauty».
In an interview with E! News earlier this month, Zendaya admitted that she and her stylist are working diligently to finalize the look.
«We have some ideas. It felt like it was time to try to get back to the Met. I believe my guys will go», - she shared about her colleagues from the film «Dune», - «and I know Jonathan [Anderson], who is our incredible costume designer, will also be participating, so it felt like it was time».
Returning in 2015, Zendaya made her Met Gala debut in a custom Fausto Puglisi gown with a sun motif. She attended the next four years and turned her appearance into a performance in 2019 when she transformed into Cinderella with a glowing pale blue ball gown from Tommy Hilfiger, inspired by classic Disney.
