Zokhran Mamdani has become a local celebrity in New York. While running for mayor this year, he remains focused on his promises to New Yorkers — primarily on solving the issue of housing affordability. And by his side all this time has been his wife, Syrian artist Rama Duwadji, whom he married in early 2025.

Zokhran and Rama have a modern love story — they met on the dating app Hinge, for which the politician expressed gratitude during a past interview on «The Bulwark» podcast, noting that «there is still hope in these dating apps».
As seen on her Instagram page, Rama is an experienced and dedicated artist. She regularly shares her work on social media and has been featured in several publications, including The New Yorker.
In early 2025, Zokhran and Rama got married in New York City Hall. They exchanged their vows modestly as Zokhran pursued his mayoral ticket. Speaking to Interview Magazine about the civil ceremony, Zokhran said of City Hall: «Externally it’s just beautiful and reminiscent of another New York, and internally it embodies so much of the public good. All these New Yorkers getting married simultaneously at different ages and different times in their lives, it’s very beautiful».
Being close to politics has its drawbacks. As her husband became more well-known, Rama faced online harassment, but Zokhran did not let it continue. In May 2025, he shared photos from their wedding on Instagram and defended her against «right-wing trolls».
«If you look at Twitter today, or any other day, you know how cruel politics can be», - Zokhran admitted. «Usually I don’t pay attention to it, whether it’s death threats or calls for my deportation. But when it comes to those you love, it’s a different story. Three months ago, I married the love of my life, Rama, in City Hall.
