Star of «Below Deck Mediterranean» Nathan Gallagher recently lost a close person, which he shared in the episode on Monday, September 2, on Bravo channel. Opening up in the confessional, Nathan explained how he found out that his close friend had passed away after battling cancer.
«So, I got a message that my friend died of cancer», - Nathan told the cameras. «I knew he had cancer, but the night before I joined the team, we were out drinking. He wasn’t drinking, but it seemed like everything was fine. Thinking about memories and so on — it’s a lot of information to take in at once, and I’m just pushing it aside for now».
Later in the episode, Nathan opened up about how his friend’s death affected him. He noted that his mom recently went through a cancer scare.
«My mom recently went through cancer tests», - Nathan said. «She has passed all the tests now, thankfully. I found out about it from my sister. Mom didn’t tell me directly. Grief and such things — it’s not something we talk about. I definitely tend to push people away. I do the same as my mom».
Nathan also talked to his teammate Gael Cameron. During their heartfelt conversation, Nathan admitted that he doesn’t understand «why he’s so sensitive» to the situation.
«Who cares if you’re sensitive, man?» Gael said to Nathan. «You're going through shit. It’s normal. You have the right to be sad sometimes». Nathan then pointed out to his partner that «it's really hard» to deal with this, adding, «I'm really struggling with this».
The tearful conversation brought Gael and Nathan closer, as she noted that it was «definitely a different side of Nathan» that she saw.
«Obviously, he has a very sensitive spot that he doesn’t show very often, and it hurts me to see him upset», - Gael said in the confessional. «I feel like Nathan was there for me when I was going through a tough time with my ex, and I just want him to know that I’m here for him too».
Their colleague Joe Bradley expressed a similar feeling towards Nathan. During his confessional, Joe admitted that «it must be very hard for Nathan to deal with this».
«I can’t even imagine», - Joe confessed. «He's like a brother to me, so I’ll be there for Nathan. Whatever he needs, we’ll handle it. I want to show him that he has me».
