Stars Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt will return to the Runway magazine for the filming of the sequel «The Devil Wears Prada 2», while Anne Hathaway’s participation has not been confirmed yet.
According to Variety, the original film’s screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna («Crazy Ex-Girlfriend», «I Don’t Know How She Does It»), is also «in talks to return to write the next chapter».
The film, which first came out in 2006, tells the story of college student Andrea Sachs, who takes an internship as an assistant to a very difficult editor. This film was a huge success, earning the 75-year-old actress a Golden Globe.
During an interview with Variety, the 41-year-old actresses sat down and reminisced about their time on set. «We just enjoyed making this film… I don’t know if either of us knew it would become what it became. I get quoted it every week. It was a life-changing movie for me», - shared the star of «Oppenheimer».
While Anne and Emily had fun on set, they recalled that the star of «Mamma Mia» was very professional in her role and did not participate in the fun. «I think she always wanted to join in the fun, but she stayed in character», - expressed the actress from «The Princess Diaries». «She wasn’t doing method acting anymore, because it made her so miserable on that film, because we were all having fun on the other side of the set, and she was like 'I'm not doing this anymore'», - added the main character of «A Quiet Place».
According to Puck, it is reported that Disney is working on the second film.
«The Devil Wears Prada» still remains a film that the trio proudly looks back on, seeing that many generations still watch it. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress from «The Proposal» shared: «Yes, I did that. Not as big as it became, but it had a magnetic quality for me that I had to be a part of it. But not as it is now, not as it’s just woven into the culture now and become such a touchstone for so many people. I didn’t realize it would leave such a lasting impression, so I didn’t realize it would leave such a legacy».
The two assistants — Emily and Anne — even performed a scene from «The Devil Wears Prada» at the 2007 Oscars ceremony, when they presented the award for Best Costume, where they joked about giving Meryl her cappuccino
